A friend who I had thought was quite sensible, confided in me that she thought her dog, a black Labrador, was racist. I was sceptical of course, so she suggested we went for a walk so I could see for myself. We went to Bath, to an open space that is quite near the University buildings.
We sat on a bench while the dog lay on the ground nearby. Every time a Chinese person or persons walked by ( there are many Chinese students in the area), the dog went fucking berserk. His lead was tied to the bench and we could feel the thing moving. If anyone else went past, young mums with buggies, OAP’s etc, he took no notice at all. After I saw this happen about 10 times, I had to agree with her assessment of the situation.
One man got particularly upset and she told him it was his fault because he had been moving too fast and the dog didn’t like that sort of thing ( she will not hear a word against the dog despite his political leanings). It was a strange afternoon.
