Following Pearl Harbour the Americans entered the war including the European theatre with men, money and materiel which latter pretty well dictated the course of the war from there onwards. The British Empire finished? It was already on the skids like the colonies of all the European powers. Australia and Canada had already been self governing for decades. Spain and portugal lost their empires early in the nineteenth century. The French tried to hold on to French Indo-china and Algeria for years after the war and got their arses kicked for their trouble. Debts not paid off for decades? Well the interest charged by the USA was derisory and they could reasonably have demanded much earlier repayment. Food rationing till the mid-fifties? The Americans gave some 7% of their food production to Europe for years after the war. The Canadians also contributed heavily. Without these supplies the Germans in particular would have starved. Swamped with commonwealth immigrants? I just can’t make a connection there to the USA.
