It isn’t necessarily the case that a later-on accusation is fake or even that surprising. There may be embarrassment on the part of the victim. If the perp is famous, she is more like to end up all over the news. I doubt a lot of young ladies want people to know they’ve been raped, and more than a man would want that, and it might be awkward with family members and so on, or be concerns about upsetting those people. It is probably a complex psychological matter that we can’t necessarily make hard fast judgements about. Another thing is that they don’t want to be considered slags for sloping off with a well known celebrity shagger… maybe they were being a bit easy, maybe they should be stayed well clear, but some girls are naive and might have hoped for something more serious, or maybe didn’t expect to be treated so badly. I’m not saying this deserves any sympathy but might explain why some women hold back, possibly until others come forward. Women tend to be a bit more collectivist in their thinking and behaviour.
Does this mean the accusers are telling the truth? No. Plenty of lying nut cases and gold diggers. I used to worry about this when I was dating.
