First of all, it’s click bait. New rule/in force make it sound as if there’s some legal requirement that you were unaware of.

Now, this refers to the fact that it’s no longer necessary to obtain planning permission to install an EV charger in your own off-road parking space.
** news flash! Unless you lived in a listed building or a conservation area, you never did! **
All you needed was a certificate signed by the building regulator to say it met standards.
So, why was this a big thing?
Because it affects businesses who want to install them at their premises, and folk who only have street parking can install them under certain H&S regulations.
Also, and most importantly, it will allow the Blob to claim that they are achieving their plan to have 300k charging points in the UK by 2030.
A cunning plan indeed.

We have a drive. The consumer unit is just on the other side of the wall beside it and installing an EV charging point would be piss easy. I have no plans ever to do so. EDF offer me a slightly cheaper tariff if I have a “smart” meter. Won’t be taking them up on that either.

I used to work for an energy company (oil & gas) here in ye olde US of A.
At a management retreat (yeah I know, trust me I felt like an imposter) they had a speaker who was one of their corporate analysts/strategists. He was quite entertaining to be fair. He had all kinds of charts and stats to make his points, but the one thing that stuck with me was his description of renewal energy bigots and in particular, EV owners.
These clowns like to present themselves and virtuous beyond reproach, helping to save the planet and cutting their carbon footprint, blah blah blah.
This guy referred to them as “energy illiterate”. Why? Aside from the huge environmental impact of actually making these wannabe milk floats, most owners charge their EVs overnight when the US power companies switch almost exclusively to coal and gas fired power stations to generate power. More EVs means more demand for energy generated by burning fossil fuels. Oops.
So not quite as green as EV owners would have you believe. If they ever believed it themselves in the first place. Cunts.
