Spandau Ballet are cunts.

We recently had a nom here about song lyrics getting censored by the woke Stasi.
Well, that got me thinking about some of the worst lyrics of all time. Namely those by Gary Kemp for his band, Spandau Ballet. Some real stinkers in the following:

‘She used to be a diplomat. But now she’s down the laundromat (from ‘Highly Strung’).

‘I bought a ticket to the world. But now I’ve come back again (‘True’).

‘Take your seaside arms and write the next line’ (‘True’).

  4. Perhaps my memory is different as I was a child in the eighties, but there were very few acts beyond Wacko Jacko that anyone took much notice of. He seemed to knock everyone else into cultural irrelevance. Maybe Madonna was on the periphery but I just remember the eighties being dominated by Michael Jackson and his chimp.

  5. Didn’t mind Spandau. Chant No1 was good. However couldn’t stomach Duran Duran. “The Reflex” is a particular pile of crap “The reflex i s a lonely child he’s waiting by the park” Huh??

        I concur.Many of them Brian Ferry,Phil Collins,John Cleese.dude from Red hot chili peppers,Aerosmith singer etc may have been given the wrong picture of ‘Epstein-Island’ and possibly eschewed the liquid refreshments but you can bet the bigger fishes arrived there via Ghislane’s sub-service on a more… covert basis.Honey-trap Mossad operation would be my guess.Pedo Joe has a nice island nearby,ditto Branson.Those submarines sure have their use ?

      • Talent free? Try playing some of their stuff, or better still, writing it.
        By all means say you don’t like it, or you think it’s shit, but unless you can walk the walk, leave the talent angle to those in the know.
        There is stuff i love that is easy three chord throwaway tunes, and stuff I think is extremely talented, but lifeless and boring. Taste is different to talent. One is subjective, the other is absolute.

    • It wouldn’t really make sense to blackmail movie/rock stars. I reckon it was politicians and scientists who were blackmailed. Sort of like with Scientology, A-list celebrities were probably used to lure in others. “Hey, come to my island, [insert A-list actor/rocker] is gonna be there! Hot women, too, Dr Schwartz!”

      I fear we’ll never get to know the full story of the Epstein-Maxwell blackmail sex-ring. Just like all other scandals of the so-called, “elite” it got whitewashed and is now forgotten, new distraction narratives established.

      • There has been plenty of stuff in the media about these Nx whatsits, the recent trial was covered, and there was a documentary series about them on either sky arts or Netflix, I can’t remember. They sound like a bunch of stupid inconsequential cunts so I paid it the notice it deserves.

        Sorry that’s not what I meant. I didn’t mean you were saying I’m a tinfoil hat wearer. I meant that even I, as a non-tinfoiler, had noticed a lack of coverage given to NXIVM in comparison with other high profile cases.

        It was essentially a cult and aimed more towards gr00ming and exploiting teenage and early 20s females.
        Some relatively famous (to an extent) people involved.

        I think one was a member of the Royal family of Serbia or somewhere. I can’t remember the specifics.

        Pattern with a lot of cults seems to be:

        ⚠️Some sketchy, dirty old man at the head of it
        ⚠️Guru/Dirty old sleazebag has a Messiah complex
        ⚠️Always trying to recruit young women to “enlighten” them (see hippies, Manson family, etc.) which of course means nobbing them.
        ⚠️Brainwashing and controlling followers

        On another note I see Ezra Miller has played the mental health card. Oh that’s ok then. The poor lamb.

      • Perhaps it was because it happened in Canada and nobody seems to give much of a shit about what happens in Canada other than Canadians.

        The exception being the Truckers protesting and Trudeau fleeing the country.

I believe I once read that Kemp employed the, “cut up” writing method invented by William Burroughs and used by Bowie and others, where you either cut out lines from newspapers, magazines, etc or write your own random words and shuffle them about and make poems/songs from the outcome. That’s why Spandau’s lyrics are a bit non-sequitur. I love the 1979-81 Spandau, but their ballads after that are… well, they are great within that idiom, but they were better as an eccentric band with, “To Cut A Long Story Short” still being a nonsensical funky favourite…

  8. Chant No1 with Beggar & Co was a good track and Hadley was/is a good singer. But there were miles better bands in the early to mid 80s with better lyrics. China Crisis, OMD, Teardrop Explodes, and the mighty Smiths and Bunnymen.

  9. The thing with Spandau is Tony Hadley is very British and proud of it. Whereas Gary Kemp is insufferably left wing and has to have his own way all the time. So Kemp basically belittled Hadley, simply because he didn’t agree with his political views. Even the other band members have spoken of Kemp publicly treating Hadley like crap. It takes all sorts to make a world and a band. But Kemp is a my way or the highway cunt. Makes me laugh, because Tony was the only talent in the group anyway.

  12. Never cared for Spandau Ballet music aside from the song Gold probably nonsense lyrics never really read them but whateves

    I remember the music video for it was pretty decent as far as music videos go
