What then? A debate on a Catholic website I frequent. Whether refusing the Eucharist (Holy Communion) to Catholic politicians that go directly against Church teaching is the right thing to do. Wether the reception of commuion is being ‘weaponised’.

I suppose if say you are Catholic yet pick and choose doctrine then it could be argued you aren’t serving God, you are serving yourself and by default ‘the other one’. Withholding the body of Christ (the host) would be something that is at odds with all their teachings. It must be in some other country that this is even on the table

To receive the Eucharist ‘in a worthy manner’ you have to be in a state of grace. Free of mortal sin. The question then becomes is denial of church teaching in the public forum a mortal sin? Then you get into intention and the common good and the individual’s heart. Biden has been denied communion I think more than once. I don’t know about Pelosi.
