I want to nominate ‘Fawlty thinking’
Don’t mention the war. The race war that is. You know, the one they don’t want you to think is actually happening…

It’s bad enough that statues are being pulled down and vandalised all over the country, but now we can’t even have a laugh. No more watching that the stupid, bigotted Alf Garnett being ripped to pieces for his ludicrous outbursts. No more Sambo putting down the idiotic Jack Smethurst in Love Thy Neighbour. No more watching any of this ‘racist’ stuff that is actually anti-racist because of the sensibilities of the 21st century. Christ help us! Am I even allowed to say that in case it offends non-Christians?

And today the news that an episode of Fawlty Towers has been banned because it’s racist. Well, I understand the English language. It’s not racist. Arguably it might be seen as xenophobic, but as the Germans are white caucasians the same as us, racist it certainly isn’t.

Than there’s this thing about statues. Baden Powell’s statue threatened because he was racist, homophobic and had sympathetic leanings towards Adolf Hitler. What a load of old cobblers! Nelson’s statue to be taken off the top of his column because he was homophobic. Cecil Rhodes statue to be taken down because he was an imperialist. Fuck it – why not just burn all the history books as well and pretend it never happened.

And the piece de resistance (am I allowed to say that? It’s French) was the tearing down of Jefferson Davis’ statue in the USA because he was the president of the nasty southern states that owned loads of black slaves, followed by the removal of a statue of Christopher Columbus because he was a colonialist.

This is all absolute nonsense. The United States would not even exist if it wasn’t for colonialism. It was a British colony ffs! And as for Davis, I assume that we will be removing George Washington’s face from Mount Rushmore and renaming the capital? Why? Well, I’ve been to Washington’s home at Mount Vernon. Washington’s fortune and his estate were all based on the fact that he owned slaves. Lots of them.

All of these facts are, naturally enough, ignored by the fermenters of the current unrest. They have their own political agendae for wanting to see law and order overthrown. And it’s nothing to do with racism.

So let me leave you with a story about statues…..

A black man came into a lot of money and wanted a big house, so he commissioned an architect to build it. Asked what he wanted in his new palace, the black man replied “I want a statue in every room”. Several months later when the house was built, the architect was showing the proud owner around and there was indeed a statue in every room.

      • Gosh this takes me back to my pre-teen days of building Airfix model planes. I used to glue the main body together with a banger inside. Finish the wings, tail, etc. Put the stickers on. Sometimes I even painted them. Then out into the garden where I’d light the fuse and watch the fucker explode.

        Had to do this while mum and dad were out of course or they would have caught me in the act and I’d have to explain how I got bangers and matches. Plus they’d stop buying me the kits if they knew I was blowing them up.

      • I did the same with the Airfix Bismark, stuffed it full of bangers with the blue touch papers twisted together. Took it to the lake on the local park, put it in the water, lit the homemade fuse of Rizla papers soaked in lighter fuel and pushed it out into lake. Fucking epic, well it was to a 12 year old.

      • seeing as the swastika is an Indian good luck thing I am not sure how that works, also the Finish national cake is also a bit Nazi, any way I saw people talking about blowing shit up so I thought I would but in.
        As a kid the farmer would light crow scares (these are a piece of rope with high powered banger’s spaced in it and it slowly smoulders letting the fireworks off at intervals), so as a kid we would listen out, locate and nick them, after various shinanigans with them I graduated.
        At the end of a train front or back behind the driver is a cabinet for emergencies, it contains two flags and a tube of detonators!
        It is a tube of large circular “Smarties” about 2″ accross with little lead tails, the idea is to space them and strap them to a rail and when the train hits them (they go bang) and the driver knows to stop.
        Any way I nicked shit loads of them emptied them out and made a “bomb”, even at this earl age I had an idea that it might be a bit dangerous, so being a responsible child I took a crow bar and dropped a shaft in the back garden ( I was 11 so I had worked out electrical detonators) .
        Any way I fired it and blew a hole about 1ft deep and 3ft wide in the back garden, it was fucking great just like the war films!
        on inspection I then realised that this was going to take a lot of explaining when My parents came back from the shops, probably the quickest and best back fill job I have ever done.
        (I would like to point out the neighbours fucking hated us and there was very little chance of them telling my mum and being believed).

      • If you remember the scene, some posh twat was ringing the door bell of the student house. The copper was about to nick him for using white man’s electricity. The joke was multi-layered. First, the bloke had black gloves on giving the appearance of having black hands. Second, the copper was wearing sunglasses, thus making everyone appear black. Third, the copper’s remarks were obviously racist in nature. Fourth, and the main point of the bit, was the absolute stupidity of the copper for making all these false assumptions to support his racist views. It was a clever piece of writing and was making fun of the police rather than being offensive per se.

    Only Fools & Horses: Episode – Cash and Curry. Basically has a laugh at the Indian caste system with Del ending up the victim. – cultural mockery

    Steptoe & Son: Episode – Any Old Iron. Albert reacts with contempt to character Timothy Stanhope because it is assumed he is gay. This one got BBC7 into trouble in 2006. Ironical as Wilfred Brambell who played Albert was actually gay himself.

  29. I’ve always worried that this site was on shaky ground because of some of the content. I’ve always tried to moderate what I write (difficult when pissed!) but now, with what is acceptable to say diminishing by the hour, it seems only a matter of time before it’s gone. I couldn’t access the site one day last week and I thought it had been shut down, or banned on uk servers at least. Hate speech is no longer what you say, it’s what the offended party wants to believe is said, and with interpretation rather than fact, so much can fall foul of that law.
    With schools pumping out left wing crap, and teaching history with selective agendas, the young of today can’t see what is happening, and don’t have the analytical skills or foundation of real unbiased knowledge to understand what is happening. My mate is an ex teacher, but still marks exam papers, and he said that there is no working out stuff anymore, so you don’t have to show how you came to the answer or conclusion, only the answer required. How do you know if the person understands the question, and if they were wrong, at what part did they go wrong? Or did they just google the answer? With that in mind, it’s easy to see how so many people will believe the shite peddled on YouTube as facts. Or the bbc.
    If you take no notice of the journey, how can you tell how far you’ve come? Once we’ve lost the map, there’s no way back.
