The cunt is wrecking BA. He’s squeezing the seats closer together. He’s charging £2.30 for a coffee on scheduled flights. And to top it all of, he’s outsourced his IT to India and laid off 700 people in the IT department.
First he tells us that a failed power supply was to blame. Bollocks. Systems like this have UPS to stop that happening. Then he tells us that it was a power surge that fucked the database. Bollocks. Systems like this have surge protection. And where was the fucking backup, you twat? Where was the failsafe? Probably flogged off to cut costs.
And let’s remember that this is SIXTH IT failure at BA in the last 12 months. But nothing to do with cost cutting and outsourcing, eh Alex
So then the cunt writes to all his staff gagging them from speaking out, then denies he was gagging them after one of them sent the email to the press. Read the email. More BBC Brexit scaremongering this morning. They are gleefully reporting that ex-pat pensioners could return to the UK for free NHS treatment after Brexit and, according to a report by the Nuffield Trust, this could cost the NHS an extra £1billion per year. This figure does rather assume there isn’t a corresponding saving in no longer treating EU nationals in the UK for free and there is no mention of some of the report’s other conclusions, including that Brexit may make another £5billion per year available to the NHS, or the potential benefits in adopting more flexible working practices.
And, of course there will be an agreement on this – in who’s interest is it for there not to be one?

Many great points, Dioclese. I’d like to add that such systems should also have redundant power supplies and the application servers and database servers should be clustered. The point being, a single node failure could not bring down an entire system since application/database load could be migrated to other servers within the cluster(s). The nature of these systems and the business demands placed upon them should dictate they are engineered to be highly available and/or fault tolerant. That’s obviously not the case here which suggests a lack of proper engineering, design, implementation and maintenance. The types of things which often go south when IT budgets are slashed. Just sayin’.

If the system is critical to the operation of the company it should be protected from power surges as well as power cuts. The fact that it wasn’t is negligent as far as I’m concerned.

I once worked on the system used when your passport is scanned on your way into UK airports. The redundancy built into that was frightening. It’s not failed once in over 20 years of 24/7 operation…

Just flown Manchester to Dallas via Heathrow and back with BA.
Pleasantly surprised with the short hop to Heathrow and transferring at Terminal 5.
Less said about the transatlantic return the better.
Outward was OK.
But the return was like a sauna. So bloody hot.
I complained and at least it wasn’t a bog standard reply.
Someone had looked into it , either that or there had been numerous other complaints.
I’d fly with them again overall but wouldn’t recommend them highly.
