      You can bet that there are some nutters out there who now think that it would be a good idea to launch some sort of ‘tit for tat’ reprisal against say a mosque or a community centre.

      Am I being utterly cynical in suggesting that if such an attack happened, it would be received, behind closed doors, as manna from heaven by the government? Just think of the opportunity for ‘deflection’ it would give them. Would they be able to resist jumping up and down shouting ‘see! see! we told you! far right! far right!’.

      I truly hope not, but I wouldn’t put money on it, as I think that they’re now seriously flaying about, and in deep, deep shit on this matter. Every single person I speak to says that they don’t have a clue.

  12. To many of us “non believers” of any religion, anybody who does have a penchant for sky fairies, of any type, does indeed have “mental health issues”.
    Of course to them the problem isn’t with their beliefs but with those of everybody else’s. ie. “It’s not me that is mad it is all the rest of you”, A classic nut job scenario.
    My problem is that they have guns as well a beliefs.

      Punishments for dissent: Imprisonment, fines, surveillance, even execution.

      The key difference is that this (secular) faith is often framed as ”rational” or ”necessary,” making its consequences easier to ignore or justify, even when they are catastrophic. Tens or hundreds of millions have died under governments – far outstripping the death tolls attributed to religion – yet the moral critique is far less forceful.

      So, critiquing religion while uncritically accepting statism is selective moral reasoning at best.

  13. David Lammy was as welcome at the vigil as Jimmy Saville at a kids party. I can’t see this government lasting but I can imagine an emergency government consisting of everyone else in coalition excluding reform and emergency suspensions of ejections.

      Exactly my point earlier. Those armed officers had every reason to believe the door was being barricaded and they had no idea who or what was behind it. Knowing the penetration potential of the rounds in their firearms, they absolutely should not have opened fire if the direction of travel was at the door when a) they didn’t know what the door was made of and b) they didn’t know what was behind the door.

      I don’t know because I wasn’t there, but based upon that post by Chief Cuntstable Watson, his officers fucked up and innocent people died as a result. Incoming lawsuit.
