BBC Radio 3 [2]

Remember when Radio 3 had a reputation for presenting discussions on obscure subjects like Slavonic art, the role of the pumpernickel in the 100 Years War, the odes of Horace and Stockhausen´s symphony for the Abyssinian nose flute?

Well in these days of BBC wokedom that´s all gone. I often listen to podcasts and had a look at what was on offer today. First, there was an announcement of a program introducing classical music to people who were not familiar with it. Nothing wrong with that except for an excited rapper describing some piece as “really gangsta!”

Other podcasts which I declined to listen to included “How can mangos, cocoa husks and rice be turned into fuel and impact climate change?”, “Shahidha Bari leads a discussion of Nigerian-born novelist Buchi Emecheta (1944-2017)”, “New Thinking: Black British Theatre. An Afro-Cuban Star” and “From a Black Juliet in the 18th century to Ira Aldridge’s daughter Amanda.”

However, I did find one example of an old fashioned gem which I recommend to Miles and other religious-minded ISACers. A discussion by four intelligent people on Cardinal John Henry Newman who converted from the Anglican to the Catholic Church in the 19th century and was made a saint in 2019. He also influenced Edgar Elgar whom I learned was also a Catholic convert. Who next? Fat Reg maybe. Anyway, have a listen to this podcast fellow ISACers. It´s really gangsta. No shit man!

  1. It’s not a discussion on the Catholic Church unless someone screams “Peee-dohhhs” afore the introductions are even completed.

    • And a grade “A” hypocrite like his other half Ruff. Remember when he said in so many words that he kept quite about his religion (on advice of Alistair I suspect) until out of office, because if you admitted you had g*d people regarded you as a nutter? Fucking right we do Tone! And when she, a devout catholic, said an unplanned pregnancy was down to forgetting her contraception on a trip up country somewhere. I’ve known scores, or more likely hundreds of “catholic” couples who have no more than three children and many just one.

    • Another famous Jewish couple in the news at the moment-Ghislaine and Jeffrey.
Nothing to do with religion of course.

      • Can’t convert if your never a part of it. The best thing after lockdown was I heard church bells ring for the first time in ages. It’s simple stuff like that that makes you feel at home.

      • ‘Tony B. Liar’

Funny that was Kingsley’s attack on Newman that provoked his response -the ‘Apologia Pro Vita Sua.’

Apology or Defence for my life.

        That he was a liar.

  2. Wireless 3 is becoming what Wireless 4 already – is a gaggle of PC, female and poofter snowflakes whining on about racism desperately playing down to the kids. The serious music output is coming down to the level of “favourite bits” that used o be served up on MUsic For Pleasure, Saga and other budget record labels – no longer the cycle of Bax;s 7 Symphonies or Vaughan Williams 9 with erudite commentary. It is just a pity Dame Ethyl Smythe a bulldyke at work in the 20s and 30s didn’t compose more instead of chasing Virginia Woolf. in her tricorn hat and resting on her laurels as the composer of “THe Wreckers” her most famous work – there were not many others, I remember “Interpretations on Record” where you would have analysis of one work, seen through the eyes of four or five orchestra’s and conductors.

Now they are totally woke I am waiting for the first broadcast performance of Dawn Butler’s Symphony for De Bongos, KFC Bargain Bucket and The Lesbian Labour Ladies Symphony Orchestra direct from Dyke Hall. All the R3 continuity announcers will be busting a gut to present that one – it will open a lot of doors at the BBC – probably lavatory ones.

  3. R4 used to be the background to my activities – driving or at home. But no more, due to the shite that they now excrete. Not surprised that R3 has gone the same way. I am fucking sick of the gross over-representation of minorities at the expense of British and Western heritage.

    • I think the Beeb itself is over-representative of minorities; the Oxbridge educated, Guardian reading, soy latté drinking, lefty leaning, Islington dwelling, woke subscribing kind.
When I become Supreme Dictator, we’re gonna need a longer wall…

    • LC@ – And it was significant in terms of number. I complained to the BBC for lying about the numbers at one protest, the numbers could be easily verified as the Met have a chopper permanently in the air over London – no reply except an automated response.
The BBC needs to be stopped from being allowed to charge a licence fee – it is not a state broadcaster, it is a propaganda vehicle for the extreme left.
BBC Radio? Can’t comment as I don’t listen to it.

  4. BBC Third Programme:
    Alvar Lidell, chief announcer
Ball-by-ball commentary of the Test Match
    Classical music
    Intelligent discussion/debate
    Quality broadcasting

Today’s BBC Radio3: steaming heap of pigshit

    Just don’t bother with it.

    • Current test match
      (i) Under lights,
      (ii) numbers on the players,
(iii) wimminz commenter scarifying my eardrums (“I think Woakes should bowl short pitched off spin googlies”) (iv) blubbing crybaby cheat now captaining Oz again.

      • Mind you, Three Strokes, England are getting hammered again, so some things haven’t changed.

  5. Why do it to yourself Mr Polly?! Have a happier life and don’t turn on Beeb radio or telly. Also avoid Sly News, C4 and the bilge on ITV.

  6. But with the licence fee still rolling in none of the BBC’s radio stations will give two fucks about what the older generation of listener think about their woke output.

  7. What is needed is some pre-colonial African music.
There must be some comparable with that of The Spice Islands (Gamelan), the Chinese and other far eastern and Indian sub-continent music.
But the racist Beeb never lets he hear.
