For many years Bashir and the BBC dined out on the famous interview with Princess Diana that ended her marriage with Prince Charles. This world scoop was meant to represent the BBC’s investigative journalism at its best. BBC top brass, such as the former DG Lord Hall, basked in the reflection of the luminous sun which apparently beamed from Bashir’s nether-quarters, casting its glorious glow across the noble truth-seeking enterprise which the BBC claims to be.
Except it’s not and Bashir is about to be officially revealed as a deceitful fraud. The Dyson Report has apparently concluded that Bashir faked bank statements and other documents to secure an interview with the Princess. He also invented allegations of secret service bugging and deliberately played on the paranoia of the insecure Princess to secure his scoop. Bashir’s fame was secured by the interview and the doom of the Princess sealed.
It was after hearing that interview that the Queen apparently insisted that the couple had to divorce. Of course the divorce might have happened without it. Or perhaps the couple might have come to some sort of accommodation within their marriage. In any event, we know what happened – the Princess descended into a chaotic lifestyle which ultimately resulted in her tragic death.
Is it right to play with peoples lives in this way? I accept that the public might have a right to know where the royals are concerned, but surely not at the cost of deceitful and immoral manipulation? Princess Diana was an annoying figure in many ways and the hysteria at her death was over the top. But she was also a very decent person who did no harm that I’m aware of and presented a positive side to the royal family. What happened to her was a tragedy.
Bashir and the BBC are cunts for what they did and the crowing of the BBC was distasteful. Let’s add this to the Saville affair as another black mark against the BBC.
