Old cunts like me grew up with great music – the Who, Kinks, Beatles and dozens more. There was plenty of crap but you could ignore it. Through the seventies there was great stuff, progressive shite aside. Up until about the time of fucking Kylie etc, leading to the even worse Spice Slags and Fuck That. Dire.
It couldn’t get any worse could it? Oh yes it could.
The rapping, warbling, autotuned manufactured garbage that passes for pop nowadays is now ‘sampling’ music. 1 in 4 releases apparently. Fuck me, the only rap track I remember samples the guitar riff from ‘Every Breath by the Police. And that’s all I remember of it.
Modern pop. Bland, stolen, Cowelised shite.
It’s a fucking disgrace.

There is an argument that goes along the lines of the yoof believe their era of pop music is the best and older generations think it’s shit. I understand that up to a point, but scientific research has been done which proves modern music is worse than in previous eras and has been getting that way since the 60s. Check this out:

I am so glad my singles buying years covered the late ’70s through the early ’90s. People harp on about how great the ’80s were and they were, but there was an awful lot of crap released in that decade. I suppose that’s true of any decade to be fair. Fact is during this period things were very different and music had far greater importance in our lives.
We had loads of music shows on TV – TOTP, The Tube, The Roxy to name a few. Music mags like Smash Hits, No.1, Look-In, etc. Plus the NME, Sounds and Melody Maker for your hairier friends. Radio 1 was huge at the time and buying a record used to really mean something. Records weren’t cheap. Saving up to buy that single you wanted or scraping together enough for a whole album used to be an event in your life. Plus there were really only 2 charts, the singles chart and the albums chart. That was it. They mattered!
Slowly the music shows went away and the glossy colourful music mags stopped being published. Napster started giving music away for free and the downward spiral began. We now have hundreds of different charts by music genre, streaming music is everywhere, downloads with no physical product to enjoy and many other distractions for the yoof to ‘enjoy’. Music is no longer a core component of many people’s lives because it has to compete with so many other forms of ‘entertainment’ which didn’t exist in decades past. Consequently, the pop music of today has to rely upon themes of sex/violence/drugs, be overly loud and be ‘hooky’ enough, quickly enough to get the attention of the addle-brained yoof. That’s not the recipe for quality.
But the yoof can’t be told. They never can. Doesn’t change the fact that what passes for pop music today is simply not as good as what passed for pop music in previous decades.

“Swing Out Sister”
These guys have been around since the 90s, didn’t really hit the big time in the UK, unlike Japan, where they’re still adored.
A bit middle of the road, but still trump a lot of bands we see today,.

They never really had a ‘breakout’ hit….oh wait, yes they did. See what I did there?

Don’t give up the day job, mate.

This Boomer Boy had Heavy Rock, Space Rock, Prog Rock, Glam Rock, Art Rock, Jazz Rock, Folk Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Punk Rock, Post Punk, New Wave, New Romantic, Dance Music, Reggae, Funk, Soul, Krautrock, Brit Pop, Alternative, Indie, Paisley Underground, Ambient, Goth Rock, French Pop I could go on and on. What do you have now. Stormzy and autotuned bollocks sang by talentless arseholes.

Stormzy – what an absolute cunt

Pleased to see that. When he rocked Glasto a couple years ago I was somewhat bemused as I’d never heard of the cunt and I couldn’t understand the mad ravings in the press on his performance. I genuinely thought I didn’t properly understand the genius. Turns out he’s just a cunt written about by a bunch of arse licking sycophants. So I feel better knowing that.

The 60’s 70’s and some of the 80’s was a renaissance period in popular music.
Maybe it’s something to do with living in a joyless society nowadays with fuck all hope for the future

There was a lot of impressive music made in particularly dark periods of history, the 80s being the one that comes to mind due to the threat of nuclear war. Music is shot now because there is no money in it.

I still know the words to Beatle songs 60 years ago. Will the brainless fuckwitts remember Stormzie songs in 60 years….
Play Motörhead at 140db towards the gonzos.

Stormzy is the ultimate Uncle Tom.
A ‘black radical’ performing in front of 200’000 upper and middle class white people at Glastonbury.

Stormzy won’t remember his lyrics in 6 years, the daft cunt.

Lyrics?!

Pop music has always been strange, I remember in 1990, when two likely lads named Candyflip did a breakbeat cover of the Beatles ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’. It was/is seen as a rave classic, but there were loads of clueless cunts in the media who said it was ‘sacrilege’ and that it associated the Beatles with drugs.
Associating the Beatles with drugs? That’s like associating Colonel Sanders with fried chicken.

Dear me, modern music, if you could call the dirge like, or obscenity shouting music.
No, my dears. Give me a minuet played on the harpsichord, and I’m as happy as Larry!
Not really. Get Santana on, although I did find some of Kid Creoles’ Coconuts well worth watching.

I heard some absolute shite on Radio 1 the other day (where else). It was some “rapper” – you know the sort of modern rapper who does that slow, low energy, “I’m so laid back because I’m rolling in money and bitches” voice. The cunt was so low energy and low effort he literally sounded like he was rapping while lying on the sofa.

Not complaining. Makes my stuff sound good

You ain’t Woodie Guthrie.

60’s to mid 80’s for me. Granted, not all of it was great, but generally far better than the shite since then.

In my humble opinion music peaked with this largely unappreciated gem which was sung by Ruff Tuff and Miles when they formed a band back in 1984. I’ll let you decide who is who.

Then they fell out and never reformed. 😞
I see it as a bit like when in Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey they could have united the world with their music.

You will never hear current music being played in stores, it is always from previous decades.

This Post May Contain Distressing Concepts.
Love them or loathe them, there are plenty of alternatives to bland teenage twattery and mindless drivelling rappery. And rock ran out of changes to ring decades ago, which is why there isn’t any now.
Grab yourself some psilocybe semilanceata and do some proper headbanging-

This Boomer Boy watched Sisters Of Mercy at the Roundhouse last night. I didn’t realise you were still allowed to have that much fun.
