    I’m one of those sad cunts who thinks his work is fantastic, though I agree that the contributions of Gilmour, Wright, Mason and others is invaluable. Waters’ treatment of them has at times been fucking despicable.

    Despite being a millionaire rock star his politics are hard left, his sympathies anti-West and, corresponding to these developments, his music has declined. His songwriting abilities peaked with Wish You Were Here and, despite a few peaks, it was mostly downhill from then on as his whinging and politics found its way into his music. Despite a few good tracks, The Wall was a prolonged whinge from a self- pitying millionaire rock star, crying all the way to the bank. The music world’s equivalent of Harry Half- Wit.

    There a reason Pink Floyd split. The other members could no longer take Walters self pitying whining.

When you line them up against say, ZZ Top, you go, “ah, these art school cunts are just pompous, pretentious, dull, dreary and depressing, this isn’t rock and roll, this isn’t the music we stole from the Negros seventy years ago. This isn’t the music that drove Ike to rape Tina Turner!”.

  18. While I do like a bit of Floyd, I agree that Waters isn’t much cop as a musician. Compared to other bassists like Andy Fraser, Glenn Hughes, John Paul Jones, John Entwistle, and McCartney in his Beatles heyday, Waters is average at best as a bass player. Also, his solo work is absolute fucking twaddle. Pompous anti-war pontificating and going on about how he was used as a toast rack at boarding school. Boo fucking hoo.

    Waters was also a cunt to both Dave Gilmour and Rick Wright (RIP). Waters bullied Wright and he forced Rick out of the band. Waters is on good (at best) terms with Nick Mason. But that’s only because Mason keeps his mouth shut and doesn’t ‘upset’ Waters by disagreeing with him.

    Mind you, the whole Floyd ‘franchise’ has looked very cuntish recently. Their 50th anniversary reissue of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is a total piss take, a blatant cash grab, and a total rip off. Even the most diehard fans can’t – and haven’t – defended this latest highway robbery. Pink Floyd ceased to be relevant in 1980. And now it is just a corporate brand like McDonald’s and Disney. Us and Them? My arse.

    • Norm-I agree that the Bass players you mention may well be more proficient on that particular instrument and some of them were the “musical director” in their respective bands, none have written lyrics like Waters.
      He sits at the top table.

      • Up to The Wall he was a fine writer, CG. But The Final Cut took his political pontificating too far. There wasn’t a choice where the Falklands was concerned, and the Argies needed a spanking. And Waters was well out of order saying the defence of the Falklands was wrong. He didn’t have to live there.

        My favourite has always been Meddle. Echoes is a masterpiece.

        Gilmour is controlled by his old lady, Polly Sampson. He allows her to use the Pink Floyd name to promote her own stuff. Waters was right about that. And it’s very jarring to see Gilmour’s wife getting co-writing credits on the later Floyd albums. Not unlike Yoko Fucking Ono and Linda being credited on solo Beatles alums.

    • Completely agree.Brian Wilson was no wizz on the bass but no-one can detract from his unfathomable genius.I would put Waters in his category and he’s correct with his Ukrainian take unlike Gilmour who even offered up a dirge for the Neo-cons proxy warriors of choice.

    • I think Waters needs Gilmour to get the best out of his ideas and vice versa. Just like Morrissey worked best with Marr, Lennon with McCartney, John Squire with Ian Brown and Paul Simon with Art Garfunkel. All those partnerships may hate each other (despite Macca’s revisionism), but there’s no denying the magic they created together.

        I was having exactly this conversation about famous songwriting partnerships, with a friend who is a session musician/producer, yesterday.

        It can be backed up by the fact that their creative output diminishes almost up the point of nothing significant when the songwriting partnership ends.
        Morrissey/Marr being perhaps the best example.

  20. He had a spell in the early 80’s touring The pros and cons of hitchhiking. The concert was pretty good, then Radio Kaos, after that I lost interest but he does seem a bellend nowadays.

      • My dad had that Pros and Cons album. And because it was a proper record, it was allowed in the LPs cupboard in the sideboard without a thought. I quite liked the music on it, but the amount of Thomas the Tanks I got out of that album cover.

      • He is,or maybe was,primarily a lyricist of the highest grade and a crafter of soundscapes,as good enough as needed on the bass,for Floyds unique body of work.

        No need for the brilliant pyrotechnics of say a Chris Squier,Mcartney or even Sting for Floyds blend of psychedelic/proggish approach .He just got incredibly lucky finding Gilmour who’s vocals and guitaring skill sets are of a different cosmic realm altogether .Upper middle class boys ultimately with unresolved social,philosophical and political issues on permanent smoulder mode would be my take.

      • I take it back, Cuntstable. He does a grand job on Echoes and One Of These Days and Let There Be More Light and many more. Just because Waters isn’t flashy doesn’t mean he can’t play. I was wrong about that. Mike Rutherford of early Genesis was the same. Gabriel, Hackett and Collins got the praise, while Mike just did the business. Same with Ronnie Lane in Small Faces and then Faces. Always behind Marriott and Stewart (which, I think, pissed him off), but he was a fine and underrated bass player.

  23. Some time in the 70s, Waters refused to answer any Pink Floyd fan mail and referred to Floyd fans as ‘Bastards’. What he said was ‘I don’t answer fan mail, Because once you let the bastards in, you’ll never get rid of them’.

    And, only a couple of years ago, he’s going on about how he loves Floyd fans and how he’d love to hear from them. Now he’s old and no longer relevant, he wants their adulation. Two faced cunt.

Fighting against the greatest threat this world had ever seen. The lads who fought in the Falklands also died defending British people against those Argie cunts.

    Both of those wars were tragic, but wrong? Like fuck they were. As gifted as he was in his Floyd pomp, the way he spits at His Majesty’s Armed Forces pisses me right off. And don’t get me started on his love for the PLO.
