After completing some IT work for a customer on Sunday, my friends and I paid a visit to the local boozer for a rather nice carvery.

We got talking about politics, about Boris, and Covid and Brexit. But the main bone of contention was the pending energy crisis and who was to blame.

One friend said its “those people who voted Brexit” (he is 23), another friend said it was “capitalism” (aged 31 I think), and my two other colleagues (44 and 50 something) said it was a combination between Britain’s suicidal march towards going Green, and all the shit going on with Putin, Germany and Ukraine.

The conversation then moved on towards a possible war in Europe, which could escalate westwards and inevitably involve the UK. The naïve 23 year old shook his head and dismissed the idea as pure nonsense. The oldest among us reminded him of the Cold War years of the late 70s and early 80s and the nuclear threat/deterrent.

But again, he dismissed it as ancient history, and that such things could never happen today, although he never explained why.

But that didn’t stop him taking a pop at Britain and the US for “inflaming” and “prolonging” the 2nd World War, and that both countries should feel ashamed for killing/murdering so many innocent people, especially in Germany and Japan!

There was a stunned silence for a few seconds before we all waded in to him with a few facts and observations. But he wouldn’t have it. To his mind Britain and the US were the antagonists and should have been far more conciliatory and diplomatic with Germany and Japan. He then said the same about Iraq and Kuwait back in the 90s where Britain and the US were again at fault for being too macho.

Inevitably the conversation more or less ended there. We paid our bill and fucked off in separate directions. But my two older colleagues and I bemoaned the young cunt for his myopic view of history. And that perhaps another world war, or European war might just focus the mind.

Not that it would make any difference because the cunt would still blame the UK rather than Russia, probably because of Brexit and racism etc.

  9. Tried to make similar points here before Techno, we now have several generations who have never encountered any significant adversity. Add in obesity, politically correct/woke education and the obsession with social media and the young today are up against it. Still plenty of good and sensible kids around, just tend not to hear too much from them. Get your dopey little friend to watch The World At War series, and ask him if his naive opinions have changed. BBC actually produced some fine content many years ago.

      With you there Magic there are indeed good and sensible kids. “World at War” is a fair starting point simply because it exists and is ‘media acceptable’. But it’s just a ‘trainer pool’, a useful, shallow gently shelving beach to a deep, frightening, filthy polluted sea. It’s just cookie-cutter history lacking real insight and political context.
      I keep an inquisitive eye on what my boys are taught re contemporary history and it is woefully lacking. 2yrs ago I sat my eldest down in front of the Ben Freedman Speech posted above (but the shoirt version) and said “watch and learn”. From which he did, he didn’t look up from the screen until the end and it all started to come together for him but most importantly he saw the point of ‘History’ and that you CANNOT rely on the system to give you the facts. Quite the opposite.

  11. The World at War was the finest television ever produced by ITV. Made in the early 1970s it relied on eye witness accounts and had 24 or 26 episodes based on well thought out themes.
    Can any of you think of television programmes made since the advent of wokeism that can even approach this feast of impartial,thought provoking excellence?

        Amazing series. Most of the men interviewed in it had never spoke of their experiences before and most of them were dead by the 1980s.

        The war of 1914-18 is still hotly contested over why it began. It wasn’t a situation that Britain needed to weigh in on, it was a Russian-German affair, but the tycoons in Britain had been plotting to destroy this New Germany since the 1890s, putting out anti-German propaganda in 1907 that no one took seriously as Germany had been allies of Britain for ages, no quarrel with them, it was the Spanish and French that gave us grief. But the war was pushed on the people and it was a disaster for humanity that resonates to this day.

    No nation is without blemish in their history but Germany and Japan were about as bad is it gets, if the Japanese think China has forgiven or forgotten the occupation they have another think coming.

    • World War One was when it all started. That war should never have happened, or at least not on that scale, and not involving Britain. It had fuck all to do with us. It was an oil war, the first of many. The Germans wanted to build the railway to link their country to the Middle Eastern oilfields. And Africa was still being fought over, the Germans had a tiny piece compared to Britain and France but the tycoons in Britain and France wanted to crush Germany and continue to dominate the world. So the war ends mainly due to Germany running out of diesel fuel, then we get 1919 and Germany is crippled. Then… oh I forget what happens next. 🙂

I can genuinely say I find them more reliable than the BBC or any American news channel. Unlike them at least some of their output is fact based with no inherent bias or propoganda.         He knew that should the British Empire collapse Germany couldn’t take up the legacy and those colonies would fall to Russia (India and the middle East particulalry) and her Far Eastern colonies to Japan.

        None of that bothered Roosevelt of course who was licking his fucking lips at the prospect and had a raiding party of accountants already scouring the globe to identify Britain’s monetisable holdings.     • According to the Ukrainian president, he was told last year that his country would be allowed to join NATO, but I don’t think that any timescale has ever been given.
      Such a move would get up Putin’s nose, and I suspect that a lot of his recent sabre rattling has been aimed at frightening the alliance off from admitting Ukraine.

      Japan had been seeking routes to surrender for MONTHS prior to Hiroshima through their Swiss and Russian legations but by then all goodwill toward the Ruskis had evaporated as the Western allies realised what the Red Army was and that they’d got a tiger by the tail.
      Japan was completely surrounded and blockaded, its major ports were mined, nothing could get in and they couldn’t export, they were completely isolated and had no indignous fuel/mineral resources. They were going nowhere and could have been starved into capitulation in a few months but… the Potsdam Declaration in July, demanded that Japan surrender UNCONDITIONALY or face ‘prompt and utter destruction.’
      MacArthur was appalled. He knew that the Japanese would never renounce their emperor, and that without him an orderly transition to peace would be impossible anyhow, because his people would never submit to Allied occupation unless he’d ordered it.
      That was the sticking point that triggered the bomb drop, and what’s fucking worse is that when surrender terms were finally agreed … they agreed that the Emperor would stay! Fuckin’ bollocks!

      Then we come to Nagasaki which was the US dropping its kegs and mooning Stalin and nothing could have stimulated Soviet Russia’s nuke development faster than that. Well done America!
      Fuck me if they were that keen to make the Japanese ‘see sense’ they could have with equal effect detonated it 5 or 10 miles offshore. The message would have been rec’d loud and clear.

  17. I remember a few years back a guided wander around a rather pleasant town in what used to be East Germany. Apparently the RAF bombed the fuck out of it.

    The guide made no attempt to disguise her feelings about the group of Brits she was showing around as it was all our fault for starting the war.

    I can understand this distorted view of history in a school formerly controlled by Russia, but I do wonder what the fuck they are teaching our children in British schools for cunts like your mate to be so fucking stupid.

    I must remember to ask my grandson what he knows about WW2 although I fear what he might tell me. Fucking leftie teachers need re-educating…

  20. I spend a lot of time in Poland . The Russians are constantly testing the Polish defences by flying into their air space on a weekly basis especially from Karliningrad.
    The more we box that cunt Putin in the more likely he will invade eastern europe and beyond if the west don’t get there act together.

    As for the energy crisis it couldn’t be any more obvious it is completely contrived, inexorably pushing us towards a predefined goal. The politicians might be dim but they are not the meat and bones of the establishment, they are just the skin on a flappy nutsack (or cornhole, take your choice).

    • The prosaic reality of why Germany surrendered in 1918 was they ran out if diesel. That was one of the main reason – perhaps THE reason – for the war: securing the oilfield and pipelines and railway to the Middle Eastern oilfields. Britain’s first deployment in 1914? Basra, (now Iraq), Ottoman Empire. Hmm. They tend to leave that out of most condensed versions of WW1. Oil, oil, oil, folks!
