I don’t watch television but when I was round my neighbour’s house last night (Wednesday 8th May) the box was on. The Panorama programme on BBC 1 was just starting. It was a put down of the NHS and the difficulty of accessing GP surgeries. It featured an interview with a man whose six year old son died in October 2015, because, he claimed, he wasn’t able to get a GP appointment. The boy’s death was preventable. His condition was not sudden and acute. Apparently it developed over a weekend. The father began his efforts to contact his GP surgery early the next Monday morning by telephone when his son was delirious and vomiting and his condition deteriorating The surgery was closed. Then he called the 111 service who allegedly told him to to call the surgery again which he did. Apparently it was still closed. He continued attempting to contact the surgery for the next 6 hours. Eventually, on the Monday afternoon he called 999 but the boy had suffered a heart attack and later died in hospital.
Well I sat and watched this bearded moron calmly relating his “heartbreaking” story for the camera and waited for the interviewer to ask the obvious questions. But being the BBC the questions were never put to the “grieving parent” (Where was Mrs grieving parent by the way?). So here they are you sorry fucking excuse for a man and a parent. Your son is a 6 year old child. He’s delirious and vomiting. His condition is deteriorating. Why did you wait 6 hours to call an emergency ambulance? Why didn’t you take him to the nearest A&E early on the Monday morning when you could see he was in distress? You don’t need a health professional to tell you what to do in these circumstances. You use your commonsense of which, very obviously, you have none. Cunt.

Hindsight’s always 20/20. The parents thought bed was the best place at that time rather than A&E. They should have been able to get proper advice from 111 that’s their fucking job after all. They could have asked ‘what colour’s his vomit’…call an ambulance. It’s underfunded like every other essential service, that’s what killed the poor kid.

No. That’s a feeble comment. The health service has many failings. In my opinion most of them due to poor management and unfettered access of millions of non-UK citizens. It not just lack of funding. In this case the parents failed to exercise commonsense judgement and get their seriously ill child to a doctor in good time. They chose to wait when the circumstances dictated action was needed and urgent.

The only specific symptoms mentioned indicating serious illness were green in the vomit and cold arms and legs, a medical profesional should recognise these, the general public can’t be expected to. If every child with a bad tummy and who was sick was brought to A&E they’d be clogging the system unnecessarily and we’d rightly be cunting the mollycoddling parents.
The GP and 111 systems are there to stop people going to hospital unnecessarily – the parents did the right thing by seeking advice but the advice from 111 was non-existent – ‘go to your GP’ – are people actually getting paid to dish out this worthless advice? And the GP admits they failed because Monday’s their busiest time. Two services which were overstretched and need more rescources to serve the public properly.

Some people don’t have the internet. We complain on these boards about snowflake children raised in front of the screen, mollycoddling parents preventing boys from becoming men and then also complain if families don’t have the internet and if parents don’t rush to use the emergency services every time their kid’s unwell.
A symptom non-specific to intussusception would be simple vomiting. Just becuase your kids sick doesn’t mean they’re seriously ill, it could just be something they ate.
And “You know better than anyone else what your child is usually like, so you’ll know when something is seriously wrong.” to me sounds like an NHS disclaimer to absolve themselves of responisibilty if they fuck up.

People die sometimes. It’s a part of life. If we want parents to try to do their best and not be hysterical around their childrens safety sometimes accidents will happen. But that 111 service well and truly fucked up by offering no advice whatsoever beyond ‘go to your GP’. I mean what is the point of 111, or trying to get people not to go to an expensive A&E as a first resort, if that’s the limit of what this service has to offer?

I was reading the other day about some pair of cunts, in Sweden I think it was, who were raising a baby for eighteen months on a vegan diet. The poor kid was so undernourished that when they finally took him to hospital he was just hours away from death.

I grant you, Spitz dogs generally can be quick to boil, but keeping them is perfectly legal, and as long as the owner is aware of the breed’s behaviour, perfectly safe. There are irresponsible owners, even of Pekinese. Cunt them indeed. There are also irresponsible parents who let – or even encourage – their kids to play with dogs about which they know nothing. I will be the first to slag off the NHS and its many, many failings, but in this case, this parents is looking to apportion blame in the wrong place, maybe because he can offload the guilt he may feel.
Frankly, I am quite staggered that this man was not going to straight to A&E with his child. I was a Paediatric Nurse and worked mainly on the wards for many years, but the last 6 months of my career, I worked in Children’s A&E and mostly did triage, as firstly, most adult trained nurses assigned there were shit scared of kids and making a judgement on them and secondly, there were not enough children’s nurses in the unit, so if one was available to do triage, that is where they bloody well were.
The vast, vast majority of children I saw did not warrant being in A&E. Coughs, colds, etc. Stuff they could see their GP’s about, but two things were going on here. Firstly, it was a case of overly paranoid and neurotic parents worried that their child was sicker than they were and secondly, the inability for them to get a GP appointment at all, despite kids being given priority generally (supposedly)
The issue with this lad bamboozles me, because in my experience, parents are more inclined to be hotfooting it to A&E than watching and waiting. It is very out of the norm to find a parent who waits and ponders, calls and calls until it reaches a point of no return and any intervention being far, far too late.
Yes, the system has its failures, but to attribute this boy’s death WHOLLY as being the NHS’s fault is wrong. They were not sitting at home with this boy. They could not see his decline. It was not in their hands to say enough is enough and get him straight to A&E. That is about PARENTAL DILIGENCE and making a logical decision to stop waiting for someone to rescue you and rescue YOURSELF, or rather YOUR CHILD.

He is a total anomaly. Some may say he was doing the responsible thing by not automatically running to A&E as yes, it COULD have been a simple viral gastroenteritis that he could manage at home and not warrant further care, but when you are there in the room with your child, seeing them deteriorate, at some point you have to take things into your own hands and fuck waiting for ‘medical advice’, surely?

GP accessibility is a bone of contention for (childless) me.
Have to phone IMMEDIATELY at 8am to try for an appt. It isn’t even an automated queueing system, you have to keep hitting redial on your phone, and PRAY that you get through. Sometimes, all the appts. are booked before 8.07am. Endless divershitty and multiculturalism in waiting room. I only have one GP who fits that description, oddly, but he is SUPERB. If the booking system worked on the queueing system, it would be much easier. Thankfully, surgery waiting area and reception area has been rejigged of late, with a touch-screen for confirming your arrival; saves having to talk to some hideous, bile-spewing munter that’s done up like a gyppo’s Christmas tree.
Suing the NHS is really rather pointless, as it’s us who end up suffering anyway. If lessons REALLY were learnt, that would be a different matter, but here in Wales there is a load of shit kicking off about one hospital in particular, and the hospital management are just the normal pen-pushing “We didn’t realise the gravity of the situation” (just completely disregarded patients’ complaints til we were blue in the face…) fuckwits.

My Auntie: History of a triple bypass two years ago, on a shit load of meds. Texted by her GP who wanted to see her re. her cardiac meds, so could she make an URGENT appt. please. She was given an appt in 4 WEEKS TIME.

Also have problems getting an appointment at my GP, I go about once every 7 years. Instead went to the local walk-in centre, NO PROBLEM, take my name and DoB and Bob’s yer aunty as the sex-change surgeon would say.
Now I know not everywhere has this, bit of we didn’t, I’d park myself embarrassingly at the GP and insist on being seen, or if necessary A&E.
In an emergency I wouldn’t wait, as with my daughter several years ago, I called 999, job done.

What’s wrong with self diagnosing through google?
I’ve had bowel cancer, heart attacks, meningitis, AIDS, leprosy brain tumours and other nasty ailments and went straight to the hospital every time. There is even a few pictures of me in my old hospital saying ‘watch out for this man’ they care about me so much.
Although I have had to move to a new hospital as the security guards stopped me entering, must not have seen my picture, the cunts.
